JJ Townsend is the founder of CitizenJXN, a crowdfunding site for civic projects and ideas created by citizens. The site launches Fall 2016 with a mission to encourage ideas and facilitate collaboration among Jacksonians to enable a community-powered future for the city.

    JJ is also a 2015 Teach for America Corps Member where he serves as a member of a national teacher corps that annually selects less than 15% of college applicants to teach for two years in low-income communities. He teaches 5th grade ELA in the Jackson Public Schools District at Clausell Elementary School.

    During undergrad, he spent three years in consulting as the founding CEO of the Ole Miss Marketing Agency, an award-winning, student-led group. Under his leadership, the agency recruited a dedicated staff of 30 consultants, won two agency awards, and captured a portfolio of clients including a local pizza franchise, small businesses, early-stage tech startups, nonprofits, university departments, and a multinational company.

    JJ is a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of
Business where he received a BBA in Marketing & Corporate Relations and is a Bill & Melinda Gates Millennium Scholar, Horatio Alger’s Scholar, and the 2013 and 2014 Ole Miss Dantzler Business Award recipient.
