VIEW MY PROJECTS
I'm a social entrepreneur and public relations strategist with an instinctive draw towards community development and education.
Growing up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast awakened me to community resilience, adapt to situations, and fascinated me to fix things broken. Founding the Ole Miss Marketing Agency during my college years made me acutely aware of the importance of cross-functional team leadership, creativity, and a clear brand in order to lead an organization and reach desired outcomes. Business school at Ole Miss taught me how to network; but more importantly, how to communicate effectively. Teach for America allowed me to build the confidence, mind, and pride of the future leaders of Jackson which has fueled my belief that a growth mindset can both prolifically speak to and catalyze extraordinary achievements.
As a 5th grade English teacher, I empower my students and maximize their academic and personal potential by providing individualized instruction for students across reading, language, and social studies course material. As the English Department Chair, I ensure the best instructional practices are consistent throughout the second through fifth grade ELA classrooms, lead data meetings and professional learning communities, and demystify the vertical integration of the English Common Core standards. I also play an integral role in the school's public relations and Partners in Education (PIE) initiatives. He manages the internal and external communications by writing and releasing press releases to media, develop and distribute the school newsletter, established a social media presence for the school, lead the boy's mentoring club, write department and school-wide grants, and collaborate with school leadership to analyze data and determine the school's overall strategic message and direction.
I currently run Citizen JXN, a crowdfunding platform for civic projects. We make ideas accessible and spark action by connecting great community projects to grant makers, businesses, and people who want to fund them. I fall asleep at night dreaming about the infinite possibilities for Mississippi. Learn more about Citizen JXN at citizenjxn.org.
I am most alive when creating projects that connect people to their local government, advocate for public schools, encourage empathy for the natural world, and amplify the voice of the oppressed. On any given day you can find me eating seafood, listening to a food podcast, blasting Bob Dylan, Tracy Chapman, The Lumineers, Lana Del Rey, or Sharon Van Etten. I also run a lot. Check out my running photos and race calendar here.
I am a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Business where I received a BBA in Marketing & Corporate Relations and spent three years in consulting as the founding CEO of the Ole Miss Marketing Agency, an award-winning, student-led group. Under my leadership, the agency recruited a dedicated staff of 30 consultants, won two agency awards, and captured a portfolio of clients including a local pizza franchise, small businesses, early-stage tech startups, nonprofits, university departments, and a multinational company. I'm a Bill & Melinda Gates Millennium Scholar, Horatio Alger’s Scholar, and the 2013 & 2014 Ole Miss Dantzler Business Award recipient.
