Tim Duncan: Consistent in Greatness

An amazing career, to say the least. 19 years, 5 NBA Championships all with the Spurs, all with little fanfare and spotlight and a stat sheet that ranks him among the best to ever play the game. But also a man whose greatness is surpassed only by his humility and generosity of spirit.

No teammate ever said anything negative about you, rather they went out of their way to shower you with praise. You helped make decent players good, and good players great. If you're starting a team with any player ever, how could you not choose the classiest, most selfless, perfectly adaptable star who will work tirelessly to help his team succeed. It was the highest of pleasures to be able to watch you play basketball since I was a 5 years old.

Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker were the reason I fell in love with the sport. The only basketball jerseys I've ever owned, the only team I've ever sincerely cheered for and the only team I'd put money on. I am legitimately saddened about this retirement announcment. For someone who was always so silent, he made the loudest mark on the San Antonio Spurs. Thanks for 19 great years Tim! One of the all-time greats!
