Youth Media project
At the end of my second year, I wrote a $10,000 grant to the Junior League of Jackson to create a Youth Media Project at Clausell Elementary. The Youth Media Project is an in-school and afterschool enrichment initiative to connect students with a network of media professional mentors, an innovative journalism curriculum aligned to Common Core and a collaborative space to develop digital media, critical thinking, and communication skills while producing original news reports. The project cultivates the voices of our scholars, improve literacy, and build self-confidence while creating community in the school. We will bring writing, media, arts, theater, and critical thinking to our scholars.
